Shahjahanpur (UP), July 21 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi today dismissed opposition attempts at unity as an opportunity for the BJP and mocked Congress president for hugging him in Parliament, virtually calling it clingy behaviour. At a farmer's rally, on his third visit to politically crucial Uttar Pradesh, Modi questioned the motive behind the no-confidence motion moved by the opposition in the Lok Sabha. "Hum karan poochtey rahe avishvas ka, karan nahi bata payey to gale pad gaye," he said. Roughly translated, the phrase conveyed unwanted clingy behaviour: "We kept asking the reasons for their no confidence, they failed to answer but clung to my neck."

New Delhi, July 21 : Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Friday said that the government should either completely abolish the 28 per cent tax bracket or reserve it only for "sin goods." Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the 28th Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council meeting, he said: "I believe 28 per cent tax should be only for sin goods, in fact, the government should completely abolish the 28 per cent tax bracket."
New Delhi, July 21 : Heeding a yearlong demand, the Goods and Services Tax Council announced exemption of sanitary napkins from the tax regime and slashed rates of more than 50 items of daily use. Sanitary napkins were previously taxed at 12 per cent.
