Srinagar, Aug 23 : Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik today extended warm felicitations to son of the soil Surya Bhanu Pratap Singh for winning bronze medal in Wushu at the ongoing Asian Games in Jakarta. Bhanu Pratap Singh, a resident of Muthi in Jammu, registered an emphatic quarterfinal victory over his Philippines rival in the men's 60-kg category on Tuesday in Indonesia. But he lost the semi-final bout against Erfan Ahangarian of Iran yesterday after suffering an injury.

New Delhi, Aug 23 : To commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Government has proposed a string of activities ranging from a philatelic exhibition on Gandhi Parv, international seminars, plays, exhibitions on Gandhi to “kavi sammelan” and astronomy shows across the country as well as abroad. A list of 32 activities has been prepared by the Culture Ministry. A senior official of the Ministry said that all the Ministries have been asked to keep their proposals ready for approval from the six sub-committees, consisting of secretaries of Central Ministries, by August-end. The sub-committees were formed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month. The Ministry of Culture, has also planned cycle yatras, a Gandhi-specific tableau on Republic Day, releasing a commemorative coin, a conference on value addition, Gandhi katha among other programmes. The Ministry is also likely to unveil the Gandhi Gram at the Kumbh Mela to be held in Allahabad next year. The Ministry will also launch an exclusive Gandhi portal, on which all other ministries and sub-committees will list the activities planned by them for the October-March event.

New Delhi [India], Aug. 22 : Congress Spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill on Wednesday received a cease and desist notice from businessman Anil Ambani-led group of companies asking him to restrain from speaking on the Rafale deal or face legal consequences. The notice on behalf of the Reliance Infrastructure, Reliance Defence and Reliance Aerostructure, stated that the Congress should stop spreading unverified, frivolous and defamatory statements on the deal. "Such freedom of expression and speech should not be mistaken as a license to behave irresponsibly and make false, frivolous, misleading and distorted statements to suit your political interest. Political leaders should release statements based only on irrefutable evidence which have been gathered after due inquiry and verification from the concerned source," read the notice.
